The Tempest is owned by a friend who used to live on the airpark
I currently reside at. I understand this Tempest is currently in Europe
somewhere (some eastern block country as I recall).

I think the O-47 belonged to Mr Dempsey (maybe it still does?). He has a collection of fire bombers and some other interesting items stored at Avra Valley Airport (now Tucson Northwest Regional?).

I would sell everything I own to have the Tempest project but I'm sure my wife has other ideas. I wonder if the owner would take a Stearman and a bunch of turret parts in trade?

i've seen some warbirds languish in the trade a plane mag for years. i'm not dissing it...... it's a great mag. but for example, i got an old friend to do the nose art on an at -11 named miss jo, owned by an ohioan, won best bomber award at sun n fun in 98, & was featured on the cover eaa magazine. all that took place from 96 till now, & the bird is still for sale!!! i remember a few other weekly regulars that appeared for years, most namely the f7u cutlass that was advertised for sale as a static display. what became of that??? trade a plane must have made a fortune on that ad!!!!

I think he is forgetting that planes of fame has an O-47 under restoration to airworthy condition.

Does anyone have a photo of the Topeka bird?

In 1980 or 81, I was in Virginia on vacation and stopped at Quantico to
checkout their museum. Outside in the back they had the remains, IIRC, of
an O-47. Does anyone know what became of that bird? They're in the process
of opening a new museum, but last time I checked the website wasn't
very informative..or up to speed yet.
