Reno – Unlimiteds From a Rookie

Sat Sep 30, 2006 8:16 am

A few images from my first visit to the National Championship Air Races at Reno, I’m hooked.

If anyone thinks that the Spitfires taking off at Legends is the most spectacular thing in historic aviation, think again!

These are from a very cold and windy Friday and a warm and sunny Saturday. The Finals on Sunday will follow in a bit.

A very big thank you to all of the Media Team at RARA who treated us like Kings and all the guys I met on the pylons for making this such a special event. In the words of the governor of California “I’ll be back!”

Looks like someone might have just been banned from the Flypast board for life

Great shots!

MOTF,

You're probably in trouble at "Plane Talk" also for such blasphemy!

Wonderful shots as always, thanks for sharing.

MOTF...I LOVE the shot of the Tigercat.
By the way...for the "Legends" remark, You're banned for ten minutes.

Mudge the Legends fan

Is the F2-G racing, or just "displaying"?

Racing, at least it was until they trashed the engine. :(

Very nice Nick. So we'll see you there again next year?

Heretic!

It's not a patch on a Keith Dennison Hurricane or Hind display though, is it?

Sat Sep 30, 2006 10:06 pm

Very Nice.

( I will stand up for the man! I too think standing under a pylon with something like Precious Metal or Strega roaring over me at 100 ft and 400 kts might make me want to give up women...much less Spitfires... :P )

That Tigercat shot is amazing!

Probably the best Hurricane display that I've seen over the past few years has to be Nick Grey's in TFC's now-departed Mk IV. An excellent, fully aerobatic routine, something you'll never, ever see from Shuttleworth's example.

As for the Hind, not necessarily better, just (very!) different.

As has been said before Rob, there is more to the world than just Shuttleworth. Yes, really!

Cracking pics Nick! Hope you don't mind but the the F2G is now my desktop (and likely to alternate with the Tigercat now we Angles have been deprived of G-RUMT!).

Glad you enjoyed your trip, wish I could get out there again - maybe 2007...
