It's a Privateer. Looks to be of Firebombing heritage.

Looks like they have 2 rear fuselage sections. And if you look closely at the section upside down it looks like it gutted on the starboard side.

I'm correcting myself.

Looks like there is only one rear fuselage. Just 2 different pictures of it

I can't seem to make out the N-Number.

N2870G...it was Hawkins & Powers Tanker 122....wrecked at Ramona, CA, 27 July 1980....aborted takeoff....ran off end...

Looks like an unconverted cockpit section has been set on there.

john, some of the ways to tell a b24 from a privateer are the side blisters on the privateer fusalage, the different rear turret arrangement, the one piece or almost one piece windshield and the fact that the fusalage is longer between the cockpit and the wings. if this carcass was complete obviously the tail arrangement would be your first clue. i personally quite like these aicraft for what they are although in my opinion the tail is a bit awkward looking due to the size of the vertical stabilizer. still though a rare and interesting aircraft that maybe hasnt been given the recognition that it deserves. sim.

Re scammer

No, we never got our 5k back,he said they were stolen, and we could sue him, probably never get our money and at the time small claims was only $ 2500.00, Lesson learned in Warbirds : CASH AND CARRY ALWAYS!

Actualy that was the 2nd time, the other was we bought seats sight unseen from a guy @ oshkosh for our P-51,well the seats arrived you could put your finger thru thru them and he stated corossion free. ROFL. CASH AND CARRY!

Those great looking engines look to be from a B-24.

The B-24 and PB4Y-2 use the the same engines/nacels. The differenec is that the Privateer's nacels are rotated 90 degees with the oil cooler inlets residing top and bottom, opposite from the Liberators Left and right cooler inlets.

After Military service, most purchased for airtanker use had their engines and nacels swapped out for those from B-25's.
