B-26 Carolyn wreckage

Sun Sep 17, 2006 4:51 pm

I was reading the NTSB report on the accident. At the end it mentions that the wreckage was released to the owner. Does anyone have any idea what became of it? What was the extent of the wreckage? Were the remains of Carolyn stored or destroyed?

Thanks

Shay,
Would you happen to have a link to that NTSB report? I'd like to read it myself.

Thanks,
Dave

Shay,

interesting post. Though from what I heard at the time, Carolyn, unfortunatley, was pretty much a pile of metal. It would indeed be fortunate if some of the major parts and pieces were able to have been recovered afterwards.

I saw the wreckage when it was in storage, there was not alot that was salvagable, maybe some small parts would be about all. It was pretty well shredded and was fit into several dumpster size containers.

Here's what's left of it.

I share your sadness Gary....both at the passing of the aircraft Carolyn, but of the pilots as well.

Thanks for the pic, Gary. Almost 11 years gone, I still miss her and the fine folks who went West with her.

28 Sep 1995, RIP Vernon, Walt, Tom, Colin and Chris. And the fair Carolyn as well...

A sad ending to be sure. For the crew as well as the B-26. Thanks everyone.

Just curious, did somebody in California buy the wreckage? Or how did it wind up there? Long way to haul scrap, wouldn't even pay for the fuel of a pick up ruck.

It is now owned by a Warbird collector and restorer out of Chino, CA.

Do you happen know what he's is using the pieces for?

Would be nice to see another B-26 in the air. Perhaps there are enough parts and assemblies floating around the planet to cobble one together. I know there are a couple of forward fuselages floating around.
