Yeah, I had always thought wuh-na-kuh.

Of course when I was in the UK I couldn't pronounce Towcester (let alone Leicester) correctly either.

When taking the train around England we passed Leicester and we thought that was pretty funny because that is where both of my Sister-in-laws lived at the time, one still does.
