Colombian B-17

Thu Aug 17, 2006 6:03 am

On the right hand side of this picture, there is what it seems to be a B-17 in red and white colors.

The location of the shot is Colombia [Possibly in Medellin] but the date and disposition of the B-17, history and so on, are of interest to me.

this photo was taken in the U.S. at Marana AZ- the B-17 in the rear is an Evergreen Tanker, my best guess is N809Z tanker #22 (44-83785) - I have a photo of this ship with the same building in the background..... will post it as soon as photobucket is done with their maintenance....

*EDIT*

here's the photo:

It could be one of the former Kenting machines. Either this one...

...or this one...

Bob Wheelans indicated they did survey work in Peru. You would think Colombia would be possible as well. However, the markings are not quite right.

Mike

it clearly is Marana, AZ. - Evergreen B-17 tankers were based there - the photo posted by me was taken in 1975 - the colour scheme matches the one in Tulio's photo (top of tail red, red chord-line) - and the building in the background is a is another proof.

as a sidenote

T-33A FAC-2033 (2nd a/c in line of Tulio's photo) now is at the Museo Aeroespacial de Colombia - MAECO...

...and for the third a/c in line - FAC-2013A - the original a/c (FAC-2013) had suffered an accident; the a/c seen is a replacement - therefore gaining the suffix 'A' to its serial.

and below another shot of FAC-2032 at Marana, AZ:

And thank you guys, thank you, Martin!

I will have to go and correct the spreadsheet with the photo data; it stated that the shot location was in Colombia . . .
