The Saturday Photo Quiz

Sat Aug 12, 2006 2:52 pm

As I slowly go thru all the pictures I took at Oshkosh :D ~ I remain puzzled as to how to catalogue these ~ where better to seek a solution than the WIX Forum !

Ok here goes ...............

Image

Picture 1 ~ What is the correct collect name for a bunch of EAA warbird judges ? A gaggle ? A pride ??

Image

Picture 2 ~ Why did they try so hard to hide this P-51 by making it blend into its surroundings ?

And finally ............... and this is the TOUGH ONE !

Image

Picture 3 ~ No props ~ No Rotors ~ No N-Number ? Any ideas ????

1) a "Cluster _ _ _ _".
2) Cause they've got no "Feng Shui"
3) Newest flight simulator. When you do a roll...YOU DO A ROLL!

I'll try to help.
I don't see any of the people your are refering to in the first photo.
All I see are two Willys M-38's (Drool-Drool!) and
a North American P-51 (sorry, honey, I got excited!)
I'd probably just label this, "A Little Slice of Heaven".

Second Photo,
Great shot, but who put silver tape all over the P-51's bubble canopy?
The whole thing, rope and all, looks like a Barber shop convention.
Maybe call it "Mustang at the Circus?!

Third Photo,
It' the new Russian Transformer! With all those wheels and huge size, it's got to be an Antonov!
Maybe just call it "Heavy Soviet Lifter".

My two cents worth...I'm just jealous cause I wasn't there!
Blue skies,
Jerry

I won't tackle number one, however number two seems to me to be an exercise in urban camoflage or "how to hide a tree in a forest."

Number three is simple enough. It's a mascot. It is an Oshkosh after all.

1. Cars and an Aeroplane
2. Aeroplane
3. Cement truck

Glad to help.

Them thar ain't "cars". Them un's is jeeps. Real jeeps and not them sick lookin things they try to pass off as jeeps today.

(Specifically Willys-Overland model MC jeeps. Most people use the their military designation M-38 when referencing them. )

Straying a little off topic on this thread but just wondering, what's the going price
today for one of them?

I remember as a kid seeing surplus jeeps advertised in magazines for $50.

Thanks in advance.

I like Mudge's first answer !

Check EBAY in Military Vehicles. Usually there are several variants.

Like any other antique vehicle price depends on make, model, year of manufacture, level of restoration, rarity and just exactly how much someone is willing to cough up.

In the current issue of Supplyline there is a 43 Ford GPW that has done a lot of movie work for $22,000. A 44 GPW that needs some work for $8950 OBO. A 52 M-38 for $10,500. A 54 M-170 ambulance for $11,500 and a 61 M-151 project for $1,500.

E-bay certainly has variety, but you want to know what you are looking for and what you are looking at if you go there. No different then if you went to someones house to look over a vehicle you saw advertised in the paper. Some folks know exactly what they have and represent it properly. Some people have no idea what it is and simply pass along what they were told, right or wrong. Some people know exactly what they have and misrepresent it to the hilt looking for a sucker. And of course there are those who are simply nuts.

Do your homework first, then go shopping!

I now return you to your regularly scheduled aviation thread and yes the cement truck really is an Oshkosh. Pretty color scheme too.

A Murder of judges as in a bunch of crows?

Sun Aug 13, 2006 10:49 pm

Surly ity's got to be a nitpick of judges...

Mon Aug 14, 2006 5:52 am

1.: congregation of old farts
2: advertising effort for "Colours Match Mustang" (short CMM) tents brand [the real reason behind the new paint-job on the TF-51C]
3: Oshkosh UBR (ugly beyond recognition)

had an overdose of Avgas & Jet A1 over the weekend...
