seats?

Mon Jul 10, 2006 11:24 am

Anyone have any pics of fighter and/or bomber seats?

Also, does anyone have any schematics or blueprints? I want to build some authentic reproductions for my "post war" Bonneville car. I'd be interested in some real seats too, IF I can afford them.

Look on eBay. There's a bunch of them.

There's only 1 real one on there right now.

I was hoping to see pics from people who actually know what the seat is out of.

Here's a Schick-Johnson seat (page out of a T-6 illustrated parts catalog):

And here are a couple of shots of a Schick-Johnson seat under restoration and mounted in the rear cockpit of my SNJ:

These seats were used in the P-51, T-6 and others of the time-period. They were made from formed sheet magnesium sections / pieces and "rode" on triple-hard chrome plated seat tube/rail supports.

Great! Thanks for posting. So now I know what North American seats generally look like!

Any pics of B-17 or B-25 or B-24 seats? Is it common for planes by the same manufactuers to use the same style seats?

I was looking at a model of a P-47 and I think it's the style I want. As much as I can tell looking at a tiny piece of plastic that is.

I've seen the volksrods seats. They are cool, but they are not authentically designed.

Speedway also has some "bomber seats", but same deal.. not authentic at all.

Aren't P-47 seats made from wood?

Dixie Airparts in San Antonio has a bunch of T-33 ejection seats that they would probably let go pretty cheap. Some of them are just sitting out in the yard. Ask for Steve or Debbie. 210 924 5561
