Those interested can look up more “hose & reel” info online. I know I t was used operationally by KB-29M tankers supporting RB-50 recon airplanes in the early 50’s; my neighbor had done many of these in the early 50’s and shared several stories.

Thank you for posting! I was aware of the B-29 trials and early use of the hook system, but not the B-24/B-17 trials. Interesting.

Were the tail guns on the B-17 retained to deal with non-paying customers? :wink:

(I know... the B-17 was the receiver, but I couldn't resist...).

I was not aware of these trials either. Some interesting photos and documents, thanks!
