You guys seen this, the pilot jumps at the last second. He hits turret #2 on the Louisville.

Is it the pilot or a piece of the cowling that gets blown off when the shell hits it.

I watched a few times and I think it is a piece of the aircraft or cowling. The plane takes a significant hit just before impact and you can see the engine or fuel erupting into flames and it's likely that the AA shells blew off parts of the aircraft.

Being a non-pilot but having been around world war II planes and airport operations for the past 20ish years -it is almost impossible to believe that a pilot could actually accomplish this.
Also, what would his motive be to do such a thing?
This has to be a part of the plane blown off and from the photographers angle just gives the impression of a human sized object departing along the wing.
