VPB-133 PV-1 Iwo Jima

Thu Oct 24, 2024 10:45 pm

While looking at some Mustang oriented photos I came across a wrecked PV-1. The photos are dated April 7, 1945.

I quick look at Aviation Archeology shows a VPB-133 PV-1 Killed Landing Accident on March 31, 1945. https://www.aviationarchaeology.com/rpt ... ecID=33111

The VPB-133 War Diary shows a landing accident due to A/A damage with the pilot severely injured. Other than the "Killed" the items seem to line up.

Interesting placement of the pinup, aft of fuselage insignia.
