Origins of Inertial Navigation ...

B-29B, 44-84083, used in the 1949 testing the FEBE astro assisted Inertial navigation system. 44-84083 was converted to an EB-29B 1948-1955 with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology based at Hanscom AFB at that time. It was re-designated as a JB-29B in 1955 then to a JTB-29B from 1956 to 1959 when it was retired to Davis-Monthan on 11Sep59 and scrapped soon after

Neat article, thanks for posting. Had not been aware of the B-29 role in testing. Only 4 thousand pounds and taking up the whole rear gunner compartment!
