Info request for Fairchild Cornell

Mon Jul 15, 2024 5:58 am

Ladies and Gents

Hoping someone might be able to help me with the attached - Fairchild Cornell 15134 (I believe). Having a hard time finding any information on it, or if it survived the training and the years

First four digits look like 1513 to me

I would guess at 15134 based on the fuselage side and underwing numbers. There could be something between the 3 and 4 beneath the wing though.

Edit: having just looked at this page: https://ingeniumcanada.org/aviation/art ... ornell-iii, placement of the serial under the wing appears to be similar, with a gap between the fourth and fifth digit to accommodate a landing lamp I guess?

It is listed here: https://www.joebaugher.com/usaf_serials/1942_3a.html
42-65585/66001 Fleet PT-26A-FE
Fairchild M-62C license built by Fleet Aircraft of Canada as Cornell II for RAF.
Fleet had its own construction number sequence. The MSNs quoted below are from Canadian Aircraft; they appear to
follow a Fairchild system which uses T4x-xxxx so there may be a prefix digit missing. Fleet
Aircraft’s own MSN system uses Fx123 which is similar to
RAF serials and may be the source of comments relating to the MSN being the RAF serial.

65718 T4-4803 Lend-Lease to RAF as FV233; transferred to Rhodesia Air Training Group as RCAF 15134

Thank you for the assistance,

Typo on my behalf (yes should be 15134), and as per Thomas_Mac I couldn't find any Canadian serial for it.

Archer, thank you, that actually gives me more understanding to the photo group that this one was found in, that group also included two Harvards photos, one of which had Cranborne on the rear.

Best regards and thanks again
