Geoff Goodall??

Fri Dec 15, 2023 12:09 pm

Anyone know if Geoff is still alive and kicking? I've sent him, via his website contact info, some update info for his online directory. I've sent it a couple of times over the last 8-10 months and have never received a response. The site shows that a big batch of updates were loaded in late July, but nothing since.

According to a note on https://www.goodall.com.au/ 'Geoff is offline at the moment and unable to respond to email until further notice.'
Don't know when that was written but the page is dated © 2023 Geoffrey Goodall

That notice has been there for two months or so, if I remember correctly. I think I originally sent my info to him via his contact page listing back in February or March.

Geoff had the best summary article I have ever seen for the Douglas DC-5...outstanding photos as well.

Hope all is well with Geoff, his site is excellent, both for info and just for a happy nostalgic browse!

Back in March 2021 I contacted that site with confirmation that VHCBC, B-17E 41-2497, was definitely named Tojo's Nightmare and that Tojo's Jinx was another aircraft entirely - 41-2453.

I never received a response at the time. As someone said, an excellent site.

I can't be 100% sure - right now the site states "Tojo Jinx (also reported as Tojo's Nightmare), MAC-MAC log: Townsville-Pt Moresby 26.12.42 USAAC Lt Woodington crashed 11.43". I think that's what he already had, and I did send him this photo with the serial number obvious and the faded nickname reasonably visible . . .

The sad news has just come to me from Phil Vabre, via WONZ Forum member Kevin Smith, that well known Australian aviation historian Geoff Goodall has passed away.

"I am sorry to have to report that I’ve just received a message from Jane Goodall to let me know that Geoff passed away at 2am this morning.

She asked for us to spread the word around his aviation family.

I am personally devastated by this news and I know that you will be too. Our thoughts are with Jane and the family at this time.

Phil "

Thanks for the update Dave. I was starting to surmise that he wasn't doing well.

Sorry to hear this, but thank you Dave for letting us know

First Joe Baugher and now this? It's been a sad couple of weeks.

From the homepage of his website:
It is with indescribable sadness that we report the passing of our dear friend Geoff Goodall in the early hours of Friday 5th January 2024. This rich legacy that Geoff has provided for us will be maintained online indefinitely but the content will be frozen as none of Geoff's fellow aviation historians has the capacity to update it as Geoff would have wished. Geoff's work has been archived by the National Library of Australia. Rest in peace Geoff, you are simply irreplaceable.

And then yesterday it was announced we've lost Robert Taylor, one of the greatest aviation artists of all time too. A sad few weeks, for sure.

He will be missed.
