Air Chief Marshal Sir Basil Embry

Tue Dec 12, 2023 9:21 am

A new book arrived at our museum that others may interested in, it's called Mission Down Under. It's about Air Chief Marshal Sir Basil Embry, G.B.C., K.B.E., D.S.O. (3Bars), D.F.C., A.F.C. and Lady Hope his wife and family. He was a WW2 R.A.F. leader and post war was Commander in Chief of all NATO aircraft in Europe. The book was written by the wife of Sir Basil Embry's son. It's not an aircraft book but a farmer's life. A grateful government did the dirty on him, plus a sunnier climate and farming became his future. He migrated along with his family to New Zealand, but for various reasons that did not work out and packed up his family and arrived in Western Australia, where he bought a farm and lived and worked here until his death, and he is buried at a place called Boyup Brook. The book follows on after Sir Basils Mission Completed.

I'd highly recommend Embry's first book, "Wingless Victory". Hair-raising at times!
