The Kingcobra's loss is no less tragic, either.

I as well was thinking about Raiders today as I saw Devil Dog depart Redbird before lunch and Gunfighter was giving rides today. Still a tragic loss of lives and equipment.

I can still remember hearing about the Texas Raiders crash as if it was yesterday. I felt extremely heartbroken (I still do) when I first heard about this tragic accident, which was on the day after it happened (13th November). Rest in peace to those who lost their lives that day :( :( :(

The first time I saw Texas Raiders, was at the Hamilton Airshow (home to Canadian Warplane Heritage) in the early 1980's. They used to do the Tora Tora Tora one wheel landing routine.
The skill involved in that, impressed the heck out of me.
Blue skies, tailwinds.

I still get a little misty-eyed when I put on my Texas Raiders T-shirt. Same with my Nine-O-Nine shirt, a my Pecos Bill P-51 shirt. Very sad losses of men and machines. I think of them a lot.

I started volunteering at flight museums in 1976, as soon as I got my driver's license, and the CAF Gulf Coast Wing and Texas Raiders was my first stop. Later I helped put the P-63 back together in San Marcos. The horrific losses of that day a year ago will always grieve me terribly.
