They must be hoping for a new generation of suckers to be fleeced. Marks don't find themselves.

A M. Fowler, a long time critic of the group has just posted that the group has finally more or less acknowledged that the scrap of metal found on the island is not from AE's Lockheed.
The fact the metal was too new, didn't fit the Lockheed window and had the wrong factory markings did not seem to deter them over the past 30 years.

I wondered why they would suddenly give up on their favorite theory.
Now we know...
They have a new theory to garner media attention and (hopefully for them) get donations.

The "new" theory is based on an older photo which purports to show a piece of cowling underwater.
I wonder if it is one of the shots taken by the group which a (former?) Member later posted on a now defunct site where he claimed to see all manner of coral encrusted parts.
To the untrained (or skeptical) eye, they looked like hunks of coral.
Also there was no scale reference, so one could not tell if the rock/wreckage was the size of a donut or tire.
If that is their new best theory, I doubt if they will gain many converts.

Will they ever go away or will they continue to make her death a side show along the lines of Bigfoot?

SOP for them. Find new "evidence", Media tour, get funding for further expeditions , new "evidence" debunked, go quiet for a year or two. Find new "evidence" and repeat cycle.

Tighar has operated for years, using the P.T. Barnum model of " There's a sucker born every minute".
Step right up folks!
The grift that keeps on giving.

It's a brilliant business model: the Fat Lady carnival act, except they never have to produce the Fat Lady.

I remember the quote about the patch being the smoking gun or something along those lines. There is the scientific method and then there is the Tighar scientific method lol.

The Incompetent Group for Historic Aircraft recovery.

Suggest you amend your motto to "(non)recovery". :)

Unfortunately they seem to be quite competent at separating contributors from their money.

I have never understood the group's fixation with Nikumaroro, Earhart and Noonan would have had to be way off course to arrive there. Like way, way, way off course. Or they want to believe that after not finding Howland Island they decided to fly in a southerly direction risking fuel starvation, overfly Baker Island and somehow reach Gardner Island 400 miles away. There is much speculation on the part of TIGHAR and little evidence. And that is being generous.

I saw a link recently where they profess to know where the plane in which Glenn Miller vanished was somehow found in the 80s.
