Hurricane Ian headed for S Carolina.

Thu Sep 29, 2022 9:28 pm

With Ian headed for S Carolina, will any special preparations be done at the USS Yorktown? Do any of the elevators work so they can move planes down to the hangar deck where they would be exposed to very little of this storm?

As per a blog post on their website:
Mayci Rechner wrote:Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum will temporarily close to visitors beginning Thursday, September 29 in preparation for impacts from Hurricane Ian. Staff is actively preparing the museum’s ships and aircraft for potential high winds and heavy rain. In addition to the museum’s closure, scheduled events are suspended until the storm passes. All impacted groups have been notified.

“We are following the guidance of the Charleston County Emergency Operations Center and prioritizing the safety of our staff and their families,” said Interim Executive Director Mac Burdette. “We have a comprehensive heavy weather plan in place and our crew will ensure our ships and aircraft are secure ahead of the storm.”

Patriots Point will announce plans to reopen after the storm has passed and it is safe to welcome visitors aboard. For the latest information visit patriotspoint.org or follow Patriots Point on social media platforms.
