This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

n my effort to expand the material on my Tallmantz pages at aerovintage.com, I just posted some pages about the six P-40s affiliated with Paul Mantz, Frank Tallman, or Tallmantz Aviation through the years.

One of the P-40Ns,
44-7203, remains a bit of a mystery. If anyone has any information on that airplane, I'd sure appreciate hearing it...

Excellent writing of the histories of those six P-40's, Scott! I was paging through some old issues of Air Classics a while back, from around 1990, and I came across a couple photos of 44-7983 following its restoration at Chino and first post-restoration test flight, in over all bare metal. It of course wasn't long after that, that it was shipped to England and has been out of the public eye ever since.

Are P-40's known for tail wheel door problems? I've seen a few of them with their doors removed, like this one.

If you're referring to the one in the first post I don't believe they're removed, they normally sit pretty flat when the gear is extended. You can just see the shadow of the port door.
For comparison here are some photos I've taken of 41-25158:

Thanks Zac. Maybe that's what I've been seeing - I'll look a little closer from now on.
