"Canned" Turkey ...

February 26, 1948 photographs of the US Navy placing a ("canning") Grumman Avenger into controlled climate storage. When the project was complete, there were 328 planes in these special storage units. These planes could be easily readied in a few hours when needed. The storage units were on base at the Norfolk Naval Air Station in Norfolk, Virginia.

Very interesting. Sliding them in on rails was a bit of a surprise.

I seem to recall a picture of a Curtis SC-1 SeaHawk going into a similar igloo at Norfolk- shame one did not survive.
