White Aircraft Co,What ??

Sun Mar 14, 2021 12:30 pm

Anyone confirm which aircraft this is , I suspect "PT-7 1939 = 2pOB; 200hp Warner Super Scarab; span: 31'0" length: 24'3". Planned primary trainer for CPTP with acquisition of rights to the 1930 Verville AT, but production never got under way. The "PT" was White's designation, not the military's (actual PT-7 was a Mohawk product). POP: possibly 1 prototype."

The Warner Super Scarab was a radial engine.

I remember seeing the first photo in a 1970s Air Classics "Things with Wings" feature - the caption speculated that the paint job may have been "for a bit of movie work". I don't remember it from any movies, though. Can anyone translate the Chinese characters?

If it was a paint job for a film, I get the feeling the Chinese characters and the flying tiger painted on the aft fuselage may not be coincidental!

Leroy, N.Y. is a small town about 20 miles west of Rochester (my home town) and also about 20 miles from the National Warplane museum at Geneseo. While known for being the place where both Clorox bleach and Jell-O were invented (not by the same person), I can't think of any aviation activity there, historical or otherwise... nor can I imagine any movies being made there.
Of course I may just be showing my ignorance here, but the White Aircraft Co. definitely qualifies as a mystery to me.
