Haven't had much luck chasing this down yet. The harness specs on the L-5 call for lacing to be done with #9 waxed lacing. In chasing around the drawings and data, I did come across another reference to 96-203 lacing cord, as well as 6-203.
Any ideas on the spec, or anyone have a known WW2 harness that is laced, and can either do a good photo or be willing to snip a tie for destructive analysis? I'm assuming this is a round cord rather than the flat tape like we use now.

From AC 65-15A:
MIL-T-6779 is lacing cord thread available in “9 ply” linen and linen hemp
MIL-C-5649 is lacing cord pre-waxed braided cotton

Thanks bdk, that points me to what is probably the current specs, Mil-T-713 or MIL-T-2520. Now to chase down who has the best price per roll.

MIL-T-713 replaced JAN-T-713 (24 Dec 1948) which superseded U.S. Army 15-3 (22 Nov. 1943). trail goes cold from there. Don't have access to the 1943 spec.
