Pretty sure there is a lot more behind the story. But I just found the pics pretty cool!

Alway find in interesting looking at captured AC....with new paint. But I find this unique example cool! Even if not captured.

Equipped with a wide variety of German, Soviet, British and American aircraft, the word “diverse” would certainly apply to them. Despite Finland never officially receiving Curtiss P-40 Kittyhawk / Warhawks, they were still able to obtain and service a single P-40M Warhawk from the Soviet Air Force during the Continuation War through a forced landing.

Judging by the serial, they obviously thought they had a Kittyhawk, not a Warhawk....

Well the Warhawk/Kittyhawk thing does confuse a lot of people. The British and Commonwealth forces continued with the Kittyhawk name all the way through the later variants that are known as Warhawks in the US, the P40M was the Kittyhawk Mk.III and the P40N was the Mk.IV.

Probably marked as such because the Russian's thought of them as Kittyhawks?. Anyhow this one was ex RAF order, not delivered, Sent to Russia used by them until it was force landed, captured by the Finns and marked as used by their air force (not on operations to my understanding).

All of them were known as Warhawks in the US

The British called the early versions Tomahawks, and the later ones Kittyhawks. Neither name was adopted by the US.
