Inside a Sunderland!

VERY nice pictures inside the MOTAT Sunderland.

I will try to find the background on the veterans. Looks like a nice story.

Seem to be having a bit of fun lately. Points to whom identifies what I see on the last picture of the first album!!! See the last pic at the end of my post.

it is the back side of the nose turret, looks like it would be a bit drafty behind the turret,

So are you wanting help in finding the podcast with the interviews that Dave Homewood did with them while we were inside?

I spent some time inside the one at the Southampton Hall of Aviation (now renamed). It is well fitted out with a civilian interior. Looked ready to go! A very nice display.

Page with has a talk by Barrie Irvine, along with Youtube links for the Sunderland visit and some footage from the 1950's.

The Sunderland has since had it's exterior refurbishment completed, and is indoors at MOTAT. A refurbished front turret was fitted several weeks ago. Restoration of the interior continues.

No, it is the front turret, which slides back into the fuselage.

This the the level below the turret, note the movable step

Note grappling hook on the right I mean starboard side, and access to the turret in the forward position. The anchor is further aft.

Part of the winch in the lower foreground. See the 5 foot high anchor to the right (there is a clearer photo of it in my album).
