Israeli Air Force AT-6 and Mystere IVA Research

Tue Apr 14, 2020 11:07 am

Having ticked off Hatzerim from my bucket list in May 2019, I am left with the the challenge of tracing the history of the frames i photographed. Alas due to a rocket attack during my visit my first attempt was foiled with the museum being shut. A return visit was arranged but that left 90 mins to do the museum, revetments and store area, so little time to investigate fully.

Of most interest are the T-6 and Mystere IVA present in Israel. Alas the IDF are about to scrap a significant number of both at Hatzerim, that said they were tendered in 2017 and they are still there, although the condition is less than desirable.

A short album is here to give a sense of what was there and the condition. https://www.flickr.com/gp/132235185@N08/32S4B4

I am looking for any definitive info / photos of T-6 and Mystere IVA in service linking the aircraft to a construction number. Starting with the Mystere IVA there is a lot on the net that says certain aircraft are painted as others etc etc and some with no marks on them at all, I am looking for source evidence. e.g. it is commonly written that Mystere IVA 09 is at Hatzerim painted as 11 but did anyone check the con plate? I only ask as serial 64 is allegedly painted as 09 there too. Why paint one up to represent the real aircraft you have as well? There may be good reason.

I have the initial delivery info and identified all 61 c/ns for those delivered. I believe there are now 21 Mystere IVA left in Israel, following crashes and "exchanges"

1 Haifa (2 recently scrapped)
10 Hatzerim
1 Hatzor
1 Hulata
2 Nevatim
1 Rishon le Zion (ex Neve Amiel)
1 Ramon
3 Ramat David
1 Rehovolt

To give an example of the challenge there is a photo of serial 92 on the gate at Nevatim, the real 92 c/n 247 was w/o 03Nov70. Another source says serial 50 is also preserved on base, can anyone confirm this? The questions are many!

Kind regards,

Bob

Looks to be at least 5 of the T-6 series there. A mixture of Harvard and T-6G. Perhaps a Stearman as well.

Stearman on its side is “32”. I have identified a few of the T-6s but a lot remain a mystery.
