Post nothing but ... OLD WARBIRD SCHEMES ...

Fri Dec 20, 2019 1:15 pm

Old long gone schemes. Old Racing schemes as well. Although most of them "back in the day" were far from accurate, they were non-the-less fun and interesting.

Below are several I have collected from ebay and do not know the original source.

"Habu" / Tired Iron Racing was always one of my favorite schemes. Destroyed years ago.

I've got a BIG PILE more but I have to disclaim: None of these photos belong to be so I can't and won't take credit for them. I'll just ask permission opening to post them. Anyone offended please feel free to contact me and I'll remove them.

I also have very little info on them. But I'm sure most members on WIX have plenty to offer.

I believe that one's painted to represent the first Mustang with a bubble canopy, though the real one was technically a P-51B.

That one could be pretty authentic. Late war 4FG. At least there's nothing overtly bogus about it.

Got any pics of the blue-camoed one behind it?

POF F6F. My favorite Hellcat. Tragically lost with it's pilot. Very sad.

A couple Instamatic shots taken by me at Palwaukee Airport, circa 1974:

p51palwaukee2.JPG

IIRC it was still with the Army at that point, but it's a very civilian-style paint job.

Looks like 44-72990 is on display, at least as of four years ago - same scheme/markings but the name Miss Lynne added:
