I recall reading years ago that there was a pby catalina that went down for a water scoop and sank, no fatalities and I heard it was never recoverd?? somewhere up there in the cold north, cant recall if it was stateside or canadian....bet there still is a few good finds to locate up there sitting on lake bottoms yet?

Don't think WIX Gary would have been out of elementary school yet, at that time....

I never had the pleasure of meeting WIX Gary, but I didn't think he would have been old enough to be a pilot in 1970.
