This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Does anybody have an update on the new b-17g the Collings foundation Acquired a couple years back. Did it make it to Florida? Will that plane be ready for the 2020 wings of freedom tour?

I have a buddy that flies a corporate jet into there occasionally and he always checks up on it. I'll try to get an update next time he's there.

Deeper question. Is there going to be a 2020 Wings of Freedom tour?

If there is, you’ll need a b-17. Which one at this time I’m not sure. Possibly leasing one for 1 season

Not if you
already have a B-24...

I’d like to lean towards the b-17 being the money maker for rides. Not that there’s anything wrong with riding in the b-24. But I’m guessing you’ll lose a good portion of profit if you didn’t have a b-17 on the tour as well

As much as I'd like to see that, one thing I've long known about Collings is that they want to be the only planes on a ramp, as otherwise it detracts from their bottom line per airport visit (the people who run the Collings tours told me this several times in the 90s when I was around them often).
Having Doc around would draw away from their other aircraft to some degree, and generally speaking the majority of people who paid to come see those planes weren't nearly as much of the type of people like us (more so the 'normal' people who were curious), so a rare bird as a B-29 might not be as big a draw as just WW2 birds in general (again, normal folks as opposed to warbird

types).

I believe I heard that these organizations don’t like to step on each other’s toes. That’s why you don’t see them together giving rides. Collings likes to hit the smaller airports as opposed to airshows.
What b-17s are able to be “ leased” for a season? B-17 Memphis Belle, b-17 ye old pub etc?
