B-17, B-24 or none of the above?

Not sure the what aircraft this is. The ammo cans are mounted in a manner I haven't seen before.
Any ideas about what it is?

I've never seen that rear sight(?) attachment in the rear of the gun.

That looks like a ball turret and mount behind the gunner, as well as a radio room bulkhead. My guess would be an earlier B-17F, pre-staggered waist guns with field-modified ammo cans.

YB-40 had dual 50's in the waits, and as far as I can tell, there is only single guns in this picture.

I am leaning towards something field modified that was being tested.
