Unknown Fate Of A Pair of French Texans...

Sun Nov 17, 2019 11:36 pm

These two woe begone Texans are listed as stored in 1992, which is the last information I have. Does anybody know of there eventual fate? I'm not holding out any hope that these two experienced any other fate besides the scrapper. Fingers crossed though.

Hi,

Photo's were taken at La Ferte Alais, France, where a number of T-6G Texans were "dumped" in the woods. "stored" probably not the right word. Most of those ended up somehow, complete or for parts recovery, as a "flyer". However these two not reported extant.

For the record:
51-14707 : accident 1960/03/20 Blida while in service with EALA 3/12; to domaines in 1965; reported dumped at La Ferte Alais (FR), coded 'KN'
51-14979 : to domaines in 1965; reported dumped at La Ferte Alais (FR), coded 'Q'

Hi Scott,

The only peoples who could answer this question is probably the peoples of La Ferté-Alais / Amicale Jean-Baptiste Salis / Salis familly

Various T6 are/were operated there and at least two of them where converted / mocked as other planes type:
- A Zero
- NA68 for a film on Indochine War (The Salis familly also run "Salis Aviation" a specialized company providing services for filmmakers) if I'm not wrong, this one beeing converted back as T6 after a belly landing few years ago.

Perhaps these two airframes was one of them ?

I could try to make a relay on the Facebook page of the AJBs (Amicale Jean-Baptiste Salis) if you want...

Regards,

I have no idea where the unfortunate and long standing idea came from that the aircraft mentioned by Iclo (not blaming him) are supposed to represent the NA-68, but I would like to correct that error. Two machines were modified to look like French Navy Hellcats for the Movie 'Indochine'. F-AZHE carried the scheme for Flotille 14F and F-AZHD carried Flotille 11F colours.

F-AZHD is 51-14367 and F-AZHE is 41-33606.
