C-119 parts surplus, N5216R is disassembled for transport

Wed Jul 03, 2019 4:45 am

Fairchild C-119 N5216R overstayed its welcome at Battle Mountain but a sale was complicated for many years.
The solution was found in a project this C-119 to be made into a foodtruck (coffeetruck actually) and now is under way with its disassembly at Battle Mountain,NV.
I learned that corrosion is terrible in the wings and boom sections as the entire plane has been left open for the pigeons to set up home for the last 25-30 years. There has been a lot more pilfering going on. Sadly they lost the escape hatch over the cockpit and the two in the rear on either side of the life raft.
Some parts are surplus and the new owners would like to trade or sell.
Not needed by them (e.g.) are the landing gear and even the boom sections. Also the radar nose will need a home as will be replaced by a smaller nose. Otherwise will go as scrap.
