Just got back

Sun Jul 11, 2004 3:36 pm

Well I just got back from Geneseo and I haven't been this tired in a long time. It was everything I expected and more. I met some amazing people and got to see alot of warbirds up close and personal. Everyone was nice and willing to hang out and talk. The air show itself was amazing with the only bad thing was Michael Potters Spitfire suffered a prop strike while taxiing. A total of 15 WIXers attended and I'm sure several people I met will become WIXers soon :)

All in all a great time was has by all and I will be attending this show from now on no matter what.

I want to thank everyone at the show for thier kindness and especially "Frank from Geneseo" for his work in puuting this amazing show together.

I also want to thank AIRIC for his trunk of endless beer and TimApNy for letter me try his home brew. He is now the official brewmaster for WIX ;)

I will be putting a section together on the show once pictures come in.

He guys, what a blast!!!! Best time I've had....and Rohr aka "Weasel" and "Smerf" and a whole pile of other words that are un-mentionable, it was fun exploring the Catalina with you. I'm actually scared as I saw some similiarites between us    The show was excellent, two Spitfires, a Hurricane, Sea Fury, Helldiver, SBD, two B-17s, two P-51s, tons of Stearmans and a whole lot more. It was great to see all the guys from WIX and I hope to see the gathering shot of us in front of the Hurricane soon, Bill. We had to rush and take the photo after we sent Rob in the other direction

I'm going to have some dinner, a cold shower and start laoding up the pics.

Cheers,

Eric

That was a fantastic day! It was a long day. Ryan, Scott and Rob suggested we get up early for the "dawn patrol". So Catherine and I did. Little did we know these gentlemen closed the bar after out conversation. Ha ha! Oh well, Catherine and I found out that 6 AM, the agreed meeting time BTW, was in fact a very good time to visit the field. I got B-17 dew covered shots of Yankee Lady and Memphis Belle (hopefully they turn out). An unobstructed shots of most of the parked aircraft. Most excellant!

The day started out overcast, but the weather picked up and by mid-afternoon we were fried in the sun. There were many excellant photo opportunities.

Very sad to hear about Mr. Potter's spit. That is a real shame as it is a beautiful aircraft. I guess we can be relieved it is only the props. I hope this doesn't taint his impression of Geneseo. I would very much like to see him return next year.

In short that was a great show. This was only my 3rd year for Geneseo, but was the best by far. Looking forward to next year already.

Mike

P.S. Catherine says yes we do have bags of milk up here in Canada!

Scott... Catherine is also glad to hear that you didn't drive off a bridge on the way home!

If I had a known.........

..that you people were going to be there I would have met you too. Do any of you guys own a warbird? I see pics of T-6's by ur name.

Great show and the first time I ever saw a SBD, SB2C, Spit, and Hurricane fly. The poor Hurricane, could not speed by like the Spit, but I'd take the Hurricane any day!

Nice To Meet You

Mon Jul 12, 2004 5:35 pm

Guys,
It was nice to meet you Friday night. It wasn't hard to pick out that group of warbird fans in the crowd!

How was Sunday? I would have loved to see the Sea Fury take off, but I had a 6.5 hr. drive back to Long Island, and had to beat the traffic.

A Mustang ride two years ago, and a ride in Yankee Lady Saturday night - think I'll be back next year? I had a group of Geneseo first timers with me this year, and should be able to fill another table next year.

Evening on the flight line, a beer in one hand and a cigar in the other, and the sound of radial engines. Nothing beats Geneseo!!!

Cheers,
