Hard to get excited about this project which is a fallout of the ill fated Lufthansa plan to restore one to fly....

By the way, since the L-1649A Starliner was strictly civil (no military version), this should ideally be posted here:

rather than in the WIX Hangar.

jwc50...

There is no need at act like a school teacher. Sharing information is what this is all about.

Personally, I'm happy to see it preserved. The Connie here in Australia that flies is painted in a pseudo Qantas scheme and it's really a C-121...but who cares, it awesome to see it flying and preserved.

Sorry Invader>>>NOT being a schoolteacher! Just trying to Help point out the differences in forums here for different aircraft types. Not mad at the post and agree that the forums are about sharing, learning and expressing opinions.

Aware that the Australian Super Connie and the Swiss Super Connie in Europe are BOTH C-121C's, and I know that the Airline History Museum's "Super G" in Kansas City is actually an L-1049H. The differences are important to me and some others I am sure.

And I am happy to see any Constellation preserved, flying or not, but I am especially looking forward to seeing the two C-121A Connies (Columbine II and Bataan) hopefully joining the North American air show circuit in the next few years.

Did the Lufthansa project end?

Is this the one they were restoring to fly?

It's effectively over. Lufthansa suddenly decided to disassemble the entire airframe and ship it to Germany

From what people have said about the design of the connie this is basically a death sentence for the project

I would anticipate that this project either goes into deep storage or appears as a static display somewhere in germany

It was, in reality, a vanity project for a recently gone CEO that the bean counters have taken the axe to

Tom Bowers

Aww, well that's a pity. I was looking forward to the chance to have a ride. Dang money getting in the way of dreaming and scheming. A familiar story for those with a love of aviation.

Lufthansa should consider separating the Connie into a non-profit company that relies on donations / investments. I would imagine a decent number of Lufthansa employees could be properly motivated to donate money into the project as well. Especially if it meant a flight in her. Something like the:

Lufthansa Legacy Flight or Lufthansa Heritage Flight.

Seems very doubtful unfortunately.
