Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pa airshow is RETURNING for 2017!!!!

Fri Mar 24, 2017 9:01 am

It is with great excitement to announce that the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pa airshow is reported to be returning for 2017!!!! :supz: There hasn't been a show at the airport since 2000! These were my first shows from 1990 to 1997 and were a big part of my childhood. I used to spend a month before the show on top of my swing set with my spotter guide and binoculars looking for planes that were heading to the show! I was even lucky to have some fighter jets practice above my house for the show.

For those not aware, this was a sleeper airshow-it had to be one of the biggest shows on the east coast. They always had:

A ramp full of every modern fighter jet, f-15s, A-4s, A-6s, A-7s, A-10s, F-18s, F-16setc.

I remember every year they had a F-14 demo, A-6 demo, B-1 lancer demo, F-18 demos.

They had the big boys lined up in a row and you could see them hanging over the edge of the mountain from the highway-C-5, C-141, C-130s, MATS Connie, C-9 Nightingale, KC-135, KC-10.

Warbirds were a little on the low side, But I remember a F9F Panther demo, B-17 Fuddy Duddy, CAFs HE 111, A P-51 demo by an actual ww2 vet.

It was one heck of a show, I hope they can return it to what it once was.

1993 had the Grumman flight with the F9f! Where are all these pilots now? I miss the old warbird pilots of the 80s and 90s. :(

That's great news. The airport up on the mountain made for really dramatic views. You are right, there was always an impressive turnout too.
