Building Aeroplanes in WWI - Amazing 1918 Film

Mon Mar 20, 2017 8:29 pm

Check out this documentary from 1918 on the US manufacture of aeroplanes for the war effort in WWI. It follows the process right from the beginning with the felling and milling of spruce trees, through the whole manufacture of the Curtiss Jenny aeroplanes. And other types are also featured. Amazing detail, and really interesting to see the techniques used, such as the rigging of the wings, and the building of the propellers.

Thanks Dave! Great find! If you reduce the speed in the settings down to .5 or .75 viewing appears at a more natural speed...AND you have time to hit the "pause" to read the narration texts.

Thanks for the tips, airnutz. And thanks for the post Dave! I'm around a Liberty engine quite a lot, how very cool to see 'em "back in the day"! All the rest of the work looks mighty familiar too...
