Lone Star Flight Museum construction at Ellington Field-EFD

Sat Jan 28, 2017 5:58 pm

Construction started last May, the buildings are scheduled to be completed by the middle of May or so. The exhibits will have to be moved in and set up. Opening to the public is scheduled for Labor Day weekend. The museum is located just past the former NASA 707 at the entrance to EFD.

The main entrance will be under the curved roof in the middle

The two hangers. The Heritage Hanger is to the left, the Waltrip Hanger (named after the museum's founder R. L. Waltrip is on the right.

Hard to see in these pictures, there will be elevated walkways in the hangers to allow guest to have an "overhead" view of the aircraft.

Looking nice. So is this at the corner of Hilliard and Challenger? The aerials of the airport haven't been updated in almost 2 years it looks like, so they don't show the construction location well.

You are correct about the location. Hillard St. is between the 707 and the museum. Challenger turns into Morton on the runway side, Aerospace Avenue is on the other.

Thanks. That's a very "out front" location, but it will give them clean access to the taxiway extension without having to build a new road to access Signature and the new hangars.

Nice! The general configuration reminds me of the Canadian Warplane Heritage..two hangars opening out onto a ramp with an observation deck in between. Except the CWH hangars are angled in the opposite direction.
