Wow. That's a shocker. Anyone know the backstory?

It was know since a few months than most of the collection was for sale. Always difficult to understand why a growing collection becomes for sale so quickly...

Death or divorce, usually. I know a guy who manages large high-end auctions like this and says most of the time, it's either those or the owner gets too old to enjoy it anymore (or got word from the Doctor that he's not long for this world).

Wow!

$429,200 for a T-6 and $160,980 for a Stearman.

I'm thinking the collection, or at least those aircraft are not really for sale.

Agreed. All of them seem overpriced... but it only takes that one guy who really wants something...

Is there some regulatory reason European aircraft might deserve a premium?

My personal opinion (and I do not have any more information than you) is, that they are just checking the potential value (or offers) for their planes. On the other hand I guess that (nearly) everything is for sale if the offer is high enough. Maybe even selling one or another bird frees some needed space in their hangar for the project(s) under work. Just my thoughts, of course I can be totally wrong, not for the first time though.

Years ago, here in the U.S. a guy named Bill Ross would list his P-38 for sale at about twice or three times it's value. He had to prove to the IRS that he was a broker and it was for sale. Of course it didn't sell until he was ready for it to go. Also, remember when the Fighter Factory sold their B-17 and a couple of other aircraft? It may be one of those things they don't care what sales they just want to liquidate a few of them to raise cash for some reason.

Is it just my imagination or was Bf-109G-6 D-FMGS one of the birds for sale yesterday? It is no longer part the listing...

G-6 wasn´t yet on the list, G-12 (2-seater) was and still is. Registration is D-FMGZ (D-Fxxx is mandatory for single engined, over 2 tons MTOW), MGZ chosen for M(esserschmitt) G(ustav) Z(wölf = 12 in German).

Seems the list is quite complete. BTW they have a Flugwerk 190 and a Fieseler Storch in the pipeline (the Storch is an original German built one with wooden wings. The one they sold had the MS-built metal wings IIRC.).

Link for your information only. I have no connection with them whatsoever.

Reminds me of when the National Warplane Museum sold Fuddy Duddy for around $3M. The Museum was carrying "around" $3M in debt they wanted to clear. AHHH decisions, decisions.... and the difference of "needing to sell" and "wanting to sell"...
