Fire Destroys Vintage Tech Manuals

Wed Feb 15, 2006 10:58 am

Anybody know these folks? Hate to hear stuff like this.
ADELANTO, Calif. (AP) - More than $10 million worth of vintage aircraft technical manuals and memorabilia were destroyed by flames that engulfed an El Mirage aviation warehouse in the Mojave Desert.
"We have a huge library and that's a lot of what we lost. The good news is we don't owe anything on any of it," warehouse owner Mark Thomson said Monday.
It took 40 firefighters nearly five hours to extinguish the blaze, apparently caused by an electrical short at about 2:30 a.m. Monday, said Capt. Joshua Sprague of the San Bernardino County Fire Department.
Thousands of technical manuals for airplanes, some dating back prior to World War II, were destroyed. Thomson said about a third of the library was incinerated.
The warehouse is located in the El Mirage dry lake bed area, about 15 miles northwest
