DC-3 Hulk in ICELAND

A friend forwarded on an article about 4x4 adventures in Iceland today, and one of the images on the website was this "crashed" DC-3 hulk:

The hulk is clearly marked United States Navy (possible RD-4?)

No serial numbers are visible...

Anyone know the story on this one? I know that DC-3s are not that uncommon, but it is interesting to see such a big hulk still sitting in the wild!
