O-49 found being used in the Pacific war

Thu Sep 01, 2016 9:09 am

I didn't know the O-49 saw frontline service in the Pacific other then at Pearl Harbor at Bellows Field. Here is a picture of one I found that is of interest. Here a O-49 taken at Kokoda airfield in November 1942

I've seen photos of them in the CBI theater.

Nathan,

The photo of the O-49 Vigilant is no doubt one of the three aircraft operated by the RAAF. See attached file

Christmas Day 1944, an L-1 flew into Bastogne with a Surgeon to treat thoracic wound cases. I have a photo of an L-1 landing in Germany in 1945. I have not figured out how or where they were assigned, except one note that they were assigned to an Army Corps. We also know that L-1's were flown in the 5th Liaison Squadron in CBI in 1944.
