This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

I can't spend a penny more than $5,000 on a used cylinder even if he
thinks it could be a B-17.

Just out of curiosity, wonder what such items are worth? I mean, what they might really be worth? Sometimes eBay "sellers" get a little, um, "optimistic".

If it's non serviceable I doubt he'd get more than $50-100 for either. I've got a few pistons and cylinders around - I have a cylinder off Miss Mitchell and a piston from Red Tail and I think I gave about $100 for each.

I might be inclined to ask the seller to show me some documentation on these parts.

The part numbers are visible in the photos. What exactly are we looking at here?
I agree, $50 and the seller should throw in a free lamp shade.

Over on the
FlyPast forum in the UK,
everyone sells stuff that came of a 617 Sq (Dambusters) Lancaster.
If someone is hawking B-17 parts (yes, the B-17 was the only aircraft to use Wrights

) , I'm sure they came off the
Memphis Belle.

That's along the lines of what I was thinking....

Um, this is a "buy it now" sale - there is no bidding going on here - just plunk your money down. Although I have to agree with Doranine and coastiejohn - $5K seems a bit steep - but then I am not a serious parts guy either.

Walk into any hangar that does work on warbirds, I'm sure they'd love to sell you a cylinder for half that!

One thing about EBay you can do is contact the seller and make an offer of what you think it may worth.

They are all antiques and I bet you can get a yellow-tagged/overhauled cylinder and piston for under $2500.

Granted, our shop is GA and not radials, but our going rate for a BER cylinder of any sort is "Yeah, sure, take it"
