A couple of P-38's (F-5G's) then and now ...

Thu Jul 28, 2016 6:38 pm

Another series of ebay sale photos of two P-38's which look to be taken (Date of Creation: 1950-1959) Not much for info in the sale.
"Four generations, 10 photographers, 100 years of history constitute the Watson Family legacy. Spanning four generations of professional photographers and representing more than a century of Los Angeles news and cultural photography." so these could have been taken in the LA area.

Fourth from the bottom photo looks like Long Beach, California, looking south-southwest.

Actually, I'd say that ALL the photos were taken at Long Beach Airport, CA. Signal Hill in the distant background with all the oil derricks are a dead giveaway.

Stunning how an original can still be on gate guard duties in this day and age. She should be inside.

And the smiling gentleman in the photos is Indy racer Rex Mays who piloted the red F-5G in the 1946 Bendix.
