P-82/F-82 question

Tue Jun 07, 2016 6:08 pm

I found an old P-51 Mustang's History book that I had squirreled away, and browsing through it I came upon the chapter on the development of the Twin Mustang. One of the things that I knew about, but had not thought on, was the .50 machine guns mounted between the two fuselages. I could not find a frontal view to see where the center section guns are in relation to the prop arcs. Do they fire below the props or are the outboard guns interrupted from shooting the props?
Also has a couple of pictures with a pod located below the 6 .50's that held an additional 8 .50 machine guns.

No interrupters mentioned in my pilots manual AN-01-6060JJA-1 reprint. The 6 center sections guns just clear the prop arcs.

Good three view here: http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa78 ... F823v1.jpg Google F-82 3-view for a few more good drawings.

The manual mentions that "provisions are also made for mounting a a droppable gun nacelle, beneath the wing center section" but contains no other info on the gun pod. That is a new one for me.
