Corsair 'dead-stick' at Valiant Air Command, Tico 1984

I spent the morning scanning some of my old slides and got to the ones I took at the Valiant Air Command show at Tico, Florida in 1984. I remember this Corsair (may have been the only one at the show) losing power and making an engine-out landing (uneventful, nice job!) . After rolling to a stop on the runway the pilot attempted an engine re-start; I think it may have briefly re-started and allowed him to start to taxi off the active.

Anybody here remember this and can add some details???

Note: I have provided pictures with the 'N' number as well as a photo of the pilot!!!

I think this is the same -5 that was owned by Bruce Lockwood and then Alan Preston in the 1980s - at one point it had "Old Deadeye" nose art. Maybe it was around 1985 or 1986 when the canopy shattered during a heat race at Reno? I don't recognize the pilot in the photos.

My Stepdad and I were there that year flying the tan T-6 owned by Dr John Marshall which matched his B-25 "Carol Jean" and I remember as we rolled out after landing the Corsair was in the grass just off the runway... The pilot was Denny Sherman and if I remember correctly Bruce Lockwood was in the backseat of the Corsair when it happened (this was back when you could still carry passengers during a airshow)... And this was the weekend that Bruce purchased the Corsair... When Denny came over to us later - I seem to remember that it was carburetor issues that caused the problem and was fixed pretty quickly...

Yes Sir that's Doc's B-25... The T-6 was in the exact scheme as a "squadron hack"...

Thanks for this post on TICO 84, very interesting stuff.
Really enjoyed that video too.
It got me checking on where some of the aircraft are now,

Best I could find is the B-25 Carol Jean is in storage at the National Air and Space museum in D.C.

The Mustang in the video "Rascal" now looks like this.


And last I saw the Wildcat it looked like this.

I have some more video of "Old Deadeye". It actually was the first Corsair I ever saw fly. Robert Ferguson flew it in to a little airport in upstate New York in 1982 with some of the Warbirds of America group.
