When Earhart was freed in 1945, she returned to the United States under a new identity -- Irene Craigmile Bolam -- so as not to embarrass Roosevelt, according to Jameson. The author claims Earhart lived out her life in the U.S. and died in 1982.

Naw..she married Elvis and they're living on a secret island with JFK and his wife Marylin Monroe.

Steve... Don't say that stuff you will ruin the internet for others, not to mention that last time I talked to her daughter that she said that mom was getting older (like 118 now) and she DIDN'T want to star on her own reality show..... What a fine modest woman Amelia is....

Happy New Year people..... You too Amelia (who lives in VA a few miles away from Dulles so she watch the planes land)...

Good for her..sounds like a fine life. I'll keep an eye out for her in the local restaurants next time we visit Udvar-Hazy. If I spot her I'll be sure to just give a wink and a nod so as not to blow her cover.

Time to trot out my personal Earhart conspiracy theory. There were two identical Lockheeds and two redhead female pilots with male navigators. One was a spy plane that Roosevelt figured could get away with flying over Japanese bases in the Pacific because the Japanese would never be so stupid as to shoot down the most famous female pilot in the world. The other was Earhart who really wasn't quite good enough to do the job got lost and ditched near Howland Island never to be seen again. The spy plane pilot was shot down by the Japanese captured and later executed when the Japanese realized what was going on. Roosevelt and company had to keep that part of the story quiet or risk starting WW2 too early. I just need a few FOIA requests and I'll blow the lid off the whole story............
