Coco solo Panama 1957

I have some pics I took in 1957 while doing Caribex and we were at France Field with our radar, but we stayed in a barraacks at Coco Solo. there is a sie here about planes there, so I tested this group of Furys there..... I will try to move a few more pics over but most pics are in the BAd/Bold site!!!Clipper You can actually open my flickr of planes with this code, and see the others planes from lots of places including some videos etc. Just dont open the site by signing in!!!!!!

Hi Clipper, thanks for the link! The Fury marked "5" in the lineup is BuNo 132057, now at the USS Hornet museum.
Would it be OK to pass the image of the B-47 along to Nathan Decker for his Forgotten Jets site? He doesn't have an image of that one (53-1972). Credited to you, of course.

That's OK - you have a lot of excellent photos; the T-33 at Cuatro Vientos was a new find as well. I've never seen photos of the Anchorage control tower destroyed in the '64 earthquake before.

Hope you don't mind me fixing/cleaning up one image that was backwards, of C-118A 53-3246:

53-3246 (c/n 44617) converted to VC-118A. Then to civil registry as N370AT, later CP-1336
(Aerovias Las Minas). In accident Oct 6, 1977.

Hi Chris. First yes thanks for making the picture turned the right way hahaha. I used slides back then in the 60's so when I was making copies of them into prints, I most likely put the slide in backwards. I may have dont that to a few others too. Glad u enjoyed the pictures, and as i see, we do get to air museums. I just returned from Chile, but since I have been to the museum in Santiago 5 times already, I did not go this time. My son and I never did videos much before, so the videos at the start of my flickr site, and no too professional, and its harder than I tjhought trying to video them. We have some old fideos taken in alaska at Anchorage when we went back to revisit there, we were there in 2006, and there is a great place to video right at the approach end coming in over the water. Actually, the east west runway was only about 5000 ft back then, and I suggested to extend it long agon in 1965 soince we got lots of cross winds on 06/24 and there was only oone runway, not paralled 06/24 which now I seee has changed to 07/25, so the earth moved I guess. The prolem is that the video we took then is in amall cassette tapes, so they need to transfer into dvd. So, tks for looking at my pictures. I just found a nice airplane site recently called. Chris sorry I did not comment on the P51. That was parked in the field at Merrill Field which is the small downtown airprt in ANC, but I never found out who owned that. I was working in El Salvador for 5 years during the soccer war btwn Honduras and Salvador, and we had a nice P 51 there owned by this American guy, Archie Baldocci, and it got crashed in the war. I never too a pic of it tho. U can see the Pres plane AF1 there in SAL in 1968 when Johnson cme there. The pink Mustang N5448V belonged to Earl "Red" Dodge. It was at Merrill Field when I lived in Anchorage in 1968 briefly. I think it went to American Aircraft Sales, Hayward, CA in'68, and was later painted black with white trim. Mike Coutches related to me that it was stolen (and by whom) at sometime during the '70s so it has an interesting history in civilian ownership. Now known as N251CS. I think Mike told me that Dodge painted it pink at the request of his wife. Classic 60's civil Mustang.

Hello Levier Thanks for the info on the pink mustang, and now I do recall hearing the name of Red dodge back then!!!!. I am sure that Chris will like that too. I was working in ANC from 1963 to Nov 1965, with Panam and was in the quake in 1964. Our chief mechanic Ham Smith owned a C150 at Merrill field, and I flew with him one day so thats when I took the mustang pic. If u get a chance,look at my flickr pics, and there are pics of the old tower that fell down in the quake, and we had an office on the 4th floor, but the manager and secty just left shortly before it hit. I have pictures of the quake too, if interested, and u cn reach me at panam1962@gmail.com for any further info. I also worked at 10 different airports in 30 years, but did not do much pictures then, but my son who works for AA takes more that me!!Let me know if u have my flickr site??? reagards paul
