A friend of mine Tony was a ww2 ball turret gunner who was stationed at Foggia, Italy at the end of the war. He recalls assisting engineers in disassembling veteran B-17s and rolling over them. He said there was one last B-25 among the 17's and one day it was gone. He remembers the tear down and destruction of all the planes and remembers what flew out but says he never saw this one leave.
Didn't know if anyone could help is with what little I have.
Please help give him some closure!
Thanks

There were several different airfields around Foggia. Do you know what group your friend was in?

From enlarging the image, it looks like it may be 42-87448, a B-25D. Baugher doesn't have any info on that one.

Sorry to delay the response he hasn't been in the shop for a while. He says he was with the 20th squadron 2nd bomb group! Thank you for the help and info.

The 2nd was based at Amendola when your friend was there.
