HARS LAUNCHES TWO CARIBOUS TO ATTEND AIRSHOW

Mon Nov 23, 2015 10:32 pm

To all those lovers of classic DeHavilland designs the other week HARS launched two DHC-4 Caribous to attend a small local airshow just north of Sydney. Lots of other DeHavilland designs were present at the pretty Luskintyre grass airstrip.

Both aircraft are Vietnam War veterans and flew to the airshow with ramps open for the enjoyment of those HARS members onboard.

Some lovely air to air photos

Too the best of my knowledge these are the only airworthy Caribous still regularly flying ....though I'm happy to be corrected.

In the USA, Cavanaugh Flight Museum has a US Army C-7A Caribou which they fly regularly.

Don't the US Army Golden Knights still jump from a Caribou too?

Nope... they use a pair of Fokker C-31A Troopship turboprop transports (in civilian service, F-27 Friendship).

Now exactly a Caribou, but the Canadian Air Force still flies CC-115 Buffalo's for ASR work. One came to the Olympic Airshow (Olympia, WA) this summer...
I talked with the crew (really nice bunch, BTW) and they loved the plane, as it had excellent STOL capabilities.

Just joined the forum, nice to see our Caribous have a post. I was crewing A4-234 that day.
We also recently took 234 to the Temora Warbirds Airshow, which was a great experience.

Welcome to WIX Leigh.
I live about an hours drive from Downsview. Where all of these DHC STOL types were built.

Great airplanes!

Thanks Andy and a fine piece of Canadian engineering they are too.
Ya we just love them at HARS...rugged and no nonsense....and highly representative of the era.
We consider it a privileged that that we have two in our care, both airworthy and used regularly as flying memorials to Australian serviceman in the Vietnam War
