Item found at B26 Crash site

Thu Nov 12, 2015 5:32 pm

Trying to find out more info. about a small circular metal plate found at a B26 crash site in France. The plate is about the size of a quarter and reads "Bell Aircraft Corp. 850 Air Corps Type E-5A" I have learned that this is likely some kind of machine gun recoil adapter (similar to a type E-11) but can't seem to find a picture of one anywhere. Does anyone have a picture or diagram of one, or know who to ask about it? I'm really trying to see if anyone knows what gun this may have come off of (tail, turret, waist). This was my uncle's plane (he was the tail gunner)and he died in the crash in 1944. His remains have not yet been found but last year remains were found at the site in close proximity to this plate. We're not sure if the remains are his or if they belong to another crewman. Just trying to find dome circumstantial evidence showing which gun they may have come from. Thanks for any help any of you can provide.

Hi, what I have found out:

Gun mount adapter, AAF Type E-5A, absorbs the recoil of the 50 cal M-2. Will look for a picture of one.
