Watching just a moment on NGC about Bill Neff and his son doing a emergency landing. i hope i got the last name right.

It's Bill Leff, and you can look up the accident report on the FAA's website under the registration, N22NA. According to the report, it was a failure of the Master Connecting Rod. There's also a copy & paste of the accident report here, along with info on another accident the aircraft had last year.

Master Connecting Rod. That would sure do it. Looks like he is a very good cool and collected pilot.

The freeway landing was due to a fuel pump failure, he almost made Fondulac.

Whoops, I forgot to post a link to the actual accident report. Here's a link to the NTSB website, with all accident reports under that registration:
